Formal education At the age of 12, Ramanujan is said to have worked out the properties of arithmetical, geometrical and harmonic progressions. The recent antagonism towards the late (and great) A. Ramanujan and his article on the varieties of the Rāmāyaṇa has led to the article being dropped from the syllabus at Delhi University, to vandalizing the offices of the History Department . In these lectures, I will present an account of his romantic life, provide a few glimpses into his mathematics and relate the increasing interest in his work and its relevance even today.
